Andre Moorer is an accomplished advocate and community leader with a steadfast commitment to addressing the social determinants of health, health disparities, and inequities that impact young and middle-aged adults living with chronic illnesses and rare diseases. Drawing on his deeply personal experiences and professional expertise, Andre has become a transformative voice for change, championing equitable healthcare practices and fostering improved outcomes. As the co-founder of Discovering Moorer2Life, a nonprofit organization he established with his wife, Cynthia, Andre leads efforts to develop innovative programs and services designed to empower individuals to overcome barriers and achieve their fullest potential.

Andre’s advocacy is rooted in his personal journey as a father and caregiver. He supported his late son, Andre Jr., who was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) at just six months old and courageously battled the condition until his passing in 2022. Over decades, Andre navigated complex healthcare challenges, including repeated hospitalizations, pain crises, and systemic barriers such as inadequate pain management and discrimination in care. In addition to advocating for SCD, his experience as a father to a son with mental health challenges and a daughter who is a breast cancer survivor of over 10 years has shaped his holistic understanding of the struggles faced by families impacted by chronic and rare diseases. These experiences drive his passion for systemic reform and his mission to amplify the voices of marginalized communities.

Andre’s distinguished record of leadership reflects his dedication to service and community impact. He serves as Chair of Claratel Behavioral Health, where he actively contributes to the Finance and Executive Compensation Committees and the Brighter DeKalb Foundation. A proud graduate of Leadership DeKalb’s Class of 2019 and Morehouse School of Medicine’s prestigious Dr. Satcher Community Health Leadership Program, Andre’s expertise and advocacy have earned him influential roles, including advisory positions with the Sickle Cell Disease Coalition (SCDC) and the Emergency Department Sickle Cell Collaborative (EDSCD). Through these roles, he actively works to address systemic healthcare inequities and improve patient outcomes.

Beyond his healthcare advocacy, Andre is deeply engaged in initiatives addressing mental health, substance abuse, and homelessness—issues closely tied to the social determinants of health. For over 25 years, he has been a dedicated resident of DeKalb County, volunteering with organizations like the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) DeKalb and partnering with the Sickle Cell Consortium of Atlanta. Balancing his professional role as a successful business owner/operator with his community leadership, Andre is a dynamic change agent whose unwavering commitment continues to inspire progress and transformation in healthcare and beyond.
